La Vaina, or Our Story

When he wasn’t terrorizing his neighborhood on his sneaker-buggy, Chef Huascar was at his mother’s side, watching her cook in Guayubín, his hometown in the Dominican Republic. He went on to become a cook, working for some of the island’s biggest hotels.

He came to New York as a young man to study pastry arts at the French Culinary Institute (now, the International Culinary Center). In 2012 he competed on Food Network’s Sweet Genius and, in 2013, won Food Network’s Cupcake Wars (Season 9 Episode 1)—a first for a New York baker! In June 2018, he appeared as a contestant on Food Network’s Chopped. He started his business in 2013, the same year we won Food Network’s Cupcake Wars. It is located at 453 West 54th St, New York, NY 10019, in Hell’s Kitchen in Manhattan.

The bakery is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. His team works hard every day to bring you small batches of delicious cupcakes, brownies, cookies, cheesecakes, flans, French macarons, and custom cakes that are ingredient-driven and flavor-focused, using only the best ingredients.
